You have reached the WEB site of the Knights of Columbus Usher Ministry for the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington, DC
In 1982, the Knights of Columbus usher ministry was officially formed, although Knights had been volunteer ushers at the shrine for many years prior. The Saturday vigil Mass had even been nicknamed the "Knights' Mass". Today, the ministry has about 289 members from Maryland, Delaware, North Carolina, Virginia and Washington, D.C., including college Knights from The Catholic University of America Council 9542.
Ushers are scheduled to serve at least one and in most cases two regular mass per month on the same day and are asked to volunteer to serve special and Pilgrimage masses throughout the year. Initial uniform and training is provided by the Usher Ministry at no cost to the ushers. All Knights are eligible to serve.
Applications are accepted througout the year with training in the Spring and Fall of each year.
